List of Institutes and Centers
In our continuous drive for professionalism and competency as modern traditional medicine practitioners, we have partnered with resourceful and proficiently recognized institutions in Nigeria, with the aim of enhancing our development, educational trainings and modern practice empowerment by actively participating in courses, training workshops, conferences and seminars, organized and delivered by these institutions. This has so far resulted in positive impact in the development of our members and practitioners. Notable among these institutions is:
1 The Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA) popularly called Natural Medicine, NAMDA, BABALAWO Agency or yet called Traditional
Medicine Agency. As an apex autonomous agency under the aegis of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, it is the nation’s
only trans-cultural medical research agency — making important discoveries that improve health, create jobs, wealth and save lives by using
innovative technologies that are rooted very strongly in Nigeria’s culture. And in fulfilling its critical and strategic mandate on training and
capacity building of Traditional Medicine Practitioners, the agency established the Nigeria College of Natural Medicine as its Training Arm.
Envisioned as an Innovative/Vocational Enterprise Institute.
The aim of the college is to produce a critical mass of individuals that would
harness the potentials of Natural Medicine (indigenous/traditional) knowledge to create jobs and wealth, thereby reducing unemployment,
alleviating poverty in the country and reducing the burdens of diseases on our people.
2 The African Center of Excellence for Drug Research, Herbal Medicines Development and Regulatory Science (ACEDHARS) was established by the
University of Lagos, and in partnership with the world bank to build up manpower on quality assurance, standardization of dosages,
reproducibility of herbal preparations, drug development, drug repurposing and safety monitoring of drugs in West and Central African region.
The researches in the Center are focused on the development and evaluation of herbal formulations into standard products for management of
non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The Center is poised to produce a compendium of herbal formulations for the treatment of NCDs in sub-Saharan
Africa. The Centre has so far thrive in enhancing capacity building through its certificate, diplomas and post -graduate degree programs for
interested individuals and modern herbal medicine practitioners.
